One local in Beaconsfield has thought of a novel way to get back at his prospective MP, Dominic Grieve, who is standing as an independent this election. Ian Caldwell, who runs Timberstore in the area, has decided to launch a giant blimp which now hovers over Grieve’s constituency, calling for the pro-Remain candidate to be ditched in the election.
One side of the blimp says ‘Out with Grieve’, while the other reads ‘Brexit’, reports the Bucks Free Press.
Caldwell came up with the idea after his signs in support of Brexit were damaged during the referendum campaign in 2016. He said that vandals scrawled swastikas on his signs and even took down the scaffolding which supported then. By comparison, a blimp would be trickier to sabotage.
He told Mr S that the blimp is 20ft long, 8ft high, and is floating around 180ft off the ground – high enough to be seen from the motorway. Apparently Dominic Grieve is now aware of the blimp looming over his home turf, as it was brought up at local hustings. But, apparently not everyone is pleased with the blimp’s presence. Mr Caldwell said that one local community support officer told him to take it down, as it could cause accidents by distracting local drivers.
Those who aren’t fans of Dominic Grieve will be happy to know though that Caldwell refused to comply, noting that he’s received permission from the Civil Aviation Authority.
Mr S thinks using a blimp is particularly apt. After all, Grieve is certainly full of hot air…
