Extinction Rebellion attempted to shut down several underground lines this morning, as part of an escalation of their citywide protests against climate change. Protestors climbed on top of underground trains to prevent them from moving, and glued themselves to the electric-powered DLR.

Exactly why the protestors decided to target one of the most environmentally friendly modes of transport in the city of London isn’t really clear, but it appears the protestors’ biggest mistake might actually have been targeting Canning Town tube station this morning.

There, aggrieved commuters became increasingly annoyed with the Extinction Rebellion protestors who had climbed on top of their train, and asked why they were being targeted, when they were simply trying to get to work on time. The situation continued to escalate, until one commuter decided to take matters into his own hands, leapt up, and (after being kicked by the XR activist) managed to drag the protestor off the train.

The battle for hearts and minds is clearly going well for XR…
