Mr S hears that the race to succeed Paxo came down to two candidates: the PM programme’s Eddie Mair and Today’s Evan Davis.

Davis’s move frees up the morning slot — with the berth potentially pencilled in for Nick Robinson after next year’s general election. That, in turn, would trigger a race for one of the most coveted jobs in journalism: Political Editor of the BBC.

Rest now; but Aunty’s game of musical chairs is far from over.

Fraser Nelson for political editor. Or Rod Liddle, perhaps… The BBC needs to look outside its existing ‘talent’ pool, I would suggest.

Thanks to Dr Brave for bringing back my wife, and brought great joy to my family________________

Hello to every one out here, am here to share the unexpected miracle that happened to me three days ago, My name is Jeffrey Dowling,i live in TEXAS,USA.and I`m happily married to a lovely and caring wife, with two kids A very big problem occurred in my family seven months ago, between me and my wife so terrible that she took the case to court for a divorce she said that she never wanted to stay with me again, and that she did not love me anymore So she packed out of my house and made me and my children passed through severe pain. I tried all my possible means to get her back, after much begging, but all to no avail and she confirmed it that she has made her decision, and she never wanted to see me again. So on one evening,as i was coming back from work,i met an old friend of mine who asked of my wife So i explained every thing to her,so she told me that the only way i can get my wife back,is to visit a spell caster, because it has really worked for her too So i never believed in spell, but i had no other choice, than to follow her advice. Then she gave me the email address of the spell caster whom she visited.(bravespellcaster@gmail.com}, So the next morning,i sent a mail to the address she gave to me,and the spell caster assured me that i will get my wife back the next day what an amazing statement!! I never believed,so he spoke with me,and told me everything that i need to do. Then the next morning, So surprisingly, my wife who did not call me for the past seven {7}months,gave me a call to inform me that she was coming back So Amazing!! So that was how she came back that same day, with lots of love and joy,and she apologized for her mistake, and for the pain she caused me and my children. Then from that day,our relationship was now stronger than how it were before,by the help of a spell caster . So, was now stronger than how it were before,by the help of a spell caster . Not sure the meds are doing the job they were designed for, old chap. Best see the old doc and get a revised prescription soonest …

My money’s on either Polly Toynbee or Owen Jones.

What ‘big changes’? The juggernaut trundles on and as the appalling spectacle of the new DG Mr Hall spouting PC jargon before a Commons Select Committee last week shows it barely matters what individual has what job.

  • edithgrove

What about Bridget Kendall doing brilliantly now from Russia, a while ago they never let her get her hands on anything more challenging than the shipping forecast. Bring her back, have an all woman panel on the Today programme.

  • The Masked Marvel

Eddie Mair supporters will be crushed if he doesn’t get the Today seat. He called Boris ‘a nasty piece of work’ on air, so is considered a hero and has entered the pantheon for many.

Mind you, putting Robinson there can only vastly improve the BBC’s political reporting. The rest of the BBC political activists posing as journalists may be further to the Left than Robinson can even see through those thick glasses, but at least they won’t be protecting politicians on both sides of the aisle like he has done throughout his tenure.

Never forget that during the expenses scandal, Robinson spent as much time defending politicians on air, ensuring everyone that most of them felt bad about all the criticism, as he did reporting on the scandal details. Never forget that he’s allowed himself to be a vehicle for various policy trial balloons from No. 10, regardless of who is in power. Never forget that Robinson kept shtum – and at times fibbed – about the poisoned relationship between Blair and Brown, apologizing for it later. Never forget that Robinson tried to convince everyone there was no leadership challenge to Brown when in fact there had been. All this and more was done not in the interests of journalism or informing the licence fee-payers who pay for his enormous salary and perks, but to protect his own insider status and cozy relationships with politicians and their minions.

Removing him from that position and forcing him to put all his political knowledge to good use in interviewing political types can only be an improvement for all concerned. Except, perhaps, Robinson won’t get so many free drinks and dinner parties. Presumably, that way he won’t be so drunk that the has to ask Laura Kuenssberg what to say before going on air.

      Thanks for that tedious comment.

Will Eddie get Ronnie Corbett’s chair?
    Will Evan get to smile?

  • Marmalade Sandwich

Today should follow HIGNFY presenting lead by having different presenters most mornings for the spare slot. And I would hope several from the Spectator would volunteer.

    • The Masked Marvel

No lefty edgy comedians, please. Had enough of those already.

      • Marmalade Sandwich

Rod Liddle, Douglas Murray, James Delingpole and Ed West from Spectator would be a good start. And David Starkey would be a riot.

        • The Masked Marvel

They probably hate Murray, but it would be amusing to see the others go at it, especially Liddle returning to his old stomping grounds to show the kiddies how it’s done. Sadly, one suspects that, given the chance, the Today Progressives would simply take things in the direction they did last year’s “guest editor” week: Left, left, and further left.

          • Barakzai

I’d certainly prefer Ms Kendall – or Ms Wyatt or Ms Doucet, for that matter – to the conceited Mr Mair (shouldn’t he be preparing to join James Naughtie in presenting Today in Balamory in a few weeks time?)

            • The Masked Marvel

Lyse “The Humanity of the Taliban” Doucet? She of the tortured vowels and twisted morals? No, thank you.

        • rtj1211

Charles Moore more likely to be Today’s Cup of Tea I would think. Suave, sophisticated, subtle. Capable of calling a spade a spade when necessary.

Looks as though it will be a straight choice.

Or not, as the case may be…
