Fox fires a shot across the aid budget’s bows

As Pete says, Liam Fox’s piece this morning calling for more supply-side reform is broadly helpful to the Chancellor and has been
written with his approval. Strikingly, the former defence secretary — who still has a constituency on the right of the party — goes out of his way to back one of the most contentious
Osborne decisions, increasing the British contribution to the IMF.

But there is one line in the article that carries with it not the air of helpful advice but menace: ‘It must be understood that further reductions in budgets for security, leaving overseas
aid untouched, would be met with fury by most Conservatives.’ This is going to be one of the big battle lines for the next spending review, what happens to the defence budget? Fox is making
it clear that he doesn’t think spending on it can — or should — go any lower. But a Treasury looking for savings will always cast covetous glances at the forces and their big
ticket items.

“Defense is the most important roll “

I think Education is critically important, and on reflection so might you J A J… was Margaret Thatcher who wanted a focus on the 3 “R”s…..whatever happened ?

Very witty, I’m glad you find 40,000 whites being murdered in South Africa highly amusing. Call me old fashioned but I don’t.

Would you make the same supercilious comment if say 40, 000 Blacks had been murdered ? I think not, since in todays multicultural orthodoxy, it’s open season on Whitey.

  • David Lindsay

    The gall of Liam Fox!

He presumes to intervene in the political debate despite having been forced to resign as Secretary of State for Defence because his office as such, and his fake charity which has since been deregistered, were being used to run a parallel foreign policy in the interests of the American neoconservatives (not in office in their own country), the racist Israeli Far Right, and the genocidal regime in Sri Lanka.

But then, why shouldn’t he? He has not been expelled from the House of Commons, nor removed from the Privy Council. He even retains the Whip of the Conservative Party, which is led by the Prime Minister. If anyone ever raises similar, though never anything like so series, questions about, for example, George Galloway, then answer them with two short words: Liam Fox.

Wilhelm – Only Africans torture their murder victims? What about the Italian Mafia? What about the IRA? What about the KKK? What about American serial killers?

  • daniel maris

    PfM –

I haven’t been to Africa (were you in post-apartheid South Africa? – just a guess). However, I’ve met plenty of Africans in London and worked with several. I don’t really find that much difference between Africans, Europeans and Asians. People seem to respond to the same kinds of things.

It’s true that Africa’s GDP growth is from a low base, but don’t forget, Europe was once as poor as Africa is now.

South America 30-40 years ago was considered pretty much a basket case. Now Brazil seems to be surging ahead and finally addressing its appalling poverty.

Hey Wilhelm 1 has the Stormfront site crashed again?

  • Pip

I don’t understand why the government doesn’t use our armed forces to replace the Border Agency. The security of our borders is crucial and if the forces were given the Border Agency budget I am sure they would do a much more efficient job.

  • Saints

Bit late Liam, your measures have already got the Army well on its way to 82,000, virtually a militia, the Nimrods have been cut up and we have no coherent aircraft carrier strategy. More importantly, the best and the brightest people are leaving the Armed Forces in droves. It will take the country a generation to restore the Armed Forces just to the condition they were in when Cameron arrived in office.

History will not judge Cameron’s conservatives harshly.

Since the end of apartheid in South Africa in the early 1990s

40,000 whites have been murdered and 1 million whites have left.

I was speaking to a white South African the other day ” Is it true that there is 50 murders a day in South Africa ? “

He responded ” It’s much worse than that, not only do Blacks murder, they torture you, like putting a tyre round your neck and dousing it in petrol.” An African speciality.

    Part 4

” Don’t laugh. All that is quite common in South Africa today. Don’t imagine that government officials caught with their fingers in the till will be punished. Excuses — like the need to overcome generations of white racism — will be found to exonerate the guilty.

In fact, known criminals will be voted into office because of a racial solidarity among the majority that doesn’t exist among the whites. When Ian Smith of the old Rhodesia tried to stand up to the world, white South African politicians were among the Westerners pressuring him to surrender.

When Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe murders his political opponents, ignores unfavorable court decisions, terrorizes the population and siphons off millions from the state treasury for himself and his friend, South Africa’s new President Thabo Mbeki holds his hand and declares his support. That just happened a few weeks ago.

Your tax dollars will go to those who don’t earn and don’t pay. In South Africa, organizations that used to have access to state funds such as old age homes, the arts, and veterans’ services, are simply abandoned.

What will happen is that Western structures in America will be either destroyed from without, or transformed from within, used to suit the goals of the new rulers. And they will reign either through terror, as in Zimbabwe today, or exert other corrupt pressures to obtain, or buy votes.

Once power is in the hands of aliens, don’t expect loyalty or devotion to principle from those whose jobs are at stake. One of the most surprising and tragic components of the disaster in South Africa is how many previously anti-ANC whites simply moved to the other side.

Once you lose social, cultural, and political dominance, there is no getting it back again. Unfortunately, your habits and values work against you. You cannot fight terror and street mobs with letters to your Congressmen. You cannot fight accusations of racism with prayer meetings. You cannot appeal to the goodness of your fellow man when the fellow man despises you for your weakness and hacks off the arms and legs of his political opponents.

To survive, Americans must never lose the power they now enjoy to people from alien cultures. Above all, don’t put yourselves to the test of fighting only when your backs are against the wall. You will probably fail. Millions around the world want your good life. But make no mistake:

They care not for the high-minded ideals of Jefferson and Washington, and your Constitution. What they want are your possessions, your power, and your status.

And they already know that their allies among you, the “human rights activists,” the skillful lawyers and the left-wing politicians will fight for them, and not for you.

They will exploit your compassion and your Christian charity, and your good will. They have studied you, Mr. and Mrs. America, and they know your weaknesses well. They know what to do. Do you ? ”

  • Wilhelm 1

    Part 3

” In America, the courts are still the final arbiters of society’s laws. But what will happen when your future majority refuses to abide by court rulings — as in Zimbabwe? What will happen when the courts are filled with their people, or their sympathizers? In California, Proposition 187 has already been overturned.

What will you do when the future nonwhite majority decides to change the names of streets and cities? What will you do when they no longer want to use money that carries the portraits of old, dead white men who helped make your country what it is ? Will you cave in, like you did on flying the Confederate flag? What about the national anthem? Your official language?

Don’t laugh. When the “majority” took over in South Africa,” the first targets were our national symbols”.

In another generation, America may well face what Africa is now experiencing — invasions of private land by the “have-nots;” the decline in health care quality; roads and buildings in disrepair; the banishment of your history from the education of the young; “the revolutionization of your justice system”.

In South Africa today, only 9 percent of murders end up in jail. Court dockets are regularly purchased and simply disappear. Magistrates can be bribed as can the prison authorities, making escapes commonplace. Vehicle and airplane licenses are regularly purchased, and forged school and university certificates are routine.

What would you think of the ritual slaughter of animals in your neighbor’s backyard? How do you clean up the blood and entrails that litter your suburban streets? How do you feel about the practice of witchcraft, in which the parts of young girls and boys are needed for “medicinal” purposes? How do you react to the burning of witches ? ”

  • Wilhelm 1

    Part 2

” Those in the West who forced South Africa to surrender to the ANC and its leaders did not consider Africa to be the dangerous, corrupt, and savage place it is now in Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Those Western politicians now have a similar problem on their own doorsteps: the demand for power and treasure from the non-Western peoples inside the realm.

It is already too late for South Africa, but not for America if enough people strengthen their spine and take on the race terrorists, the armies of the “politically correct” and, most dangerous of all, the craven politicians who believe “compassionate conservatism” will buy them a few more votes, a few more days of peace.

White South Africans, you should remember, have been in that part of Africa for the same amount of time whites have inhabited North America; yet ultimately South Africans voted for their own suicide. We are not so very different from you.

We lost our country through skillful propaganda, pressure from abroad (not least from the U.S.A.), unrelenting charges of “oppression” and “racism,” and the shrewd assessment by African tyrants that the white man has many Achilles’ heels, the most significant of which are his compassion, his belief in the ,”love your neighbor” philosophy — none of which are part of the Third World’s history.

The mainline churches played a big role in the demise of Western influence throughout Africa, too; especially in South Africa. Today’s tyrants were yesterday’s mission-school protégés. Many dictators in Africa were men of the cloth.

They knew their clerical collars would deflect criticism and obfuscate their real aims, which had nothing whatever to do with the “brotherhood of man.”

Other tyrants, like the infamous Idi Amin, were trained and schooled by the whites themselves, at Oxford, Cambridge, and Harvard. After receiving the best from the West, they unleashed a resentful bloodlust against their benefactors.

From what I have seen and read thus far, I fear Americans will capitulate just as we did. Americans are, generally, a soft lot. They don’t want to quarrel or obstruct the claims of those who believe they were wronged. They like peace and quiet, and they want to compromise and be nice.”

    South Africa Project

A Warning From South Africa by Robbie Noel

” South Africa may be the grim model of the future Western world, for events in America reveals trends chillingly similar to those that destroyed our country.

America’s structures are Western. Your Congress, your lobbying groups, your free speech, and the way ordinary Americans either get involved or ignore politics are peculiarly Western, not the way most of the world operates.

But the fact that only about a third of Americans deem it important to vote is horrifying in light of how close you are to losing your Western character.

That is exactly what happened in South Africa. I know, because I was there and I saw it happen. Faced with revolution in the streets, strikes, civil unrest and the sheer terror and murder practiced by Nelson Mandela’s African National Congress (ANC), the white government simply capitulated in order to achieve “peace.” Westerners need peace. They need order and stability. They are builders and planners. But what we got was peace of the grave for our society.

The Third World is different — different peoples with different pasts and different cultures. Yet Westerners continue to mistake the psychology of the Third World and its peoples. Sierra Leone and Zimbabwe are perfect examples of those mistakes. Sierra Leone is in perpetual civil war, and Zimbabwe — once thriving, stable Rhodesia — is looting the very people (the white men) who feed the country.

Yet Westerners do not admit that the same kind of savagery could come to America when enough immigrants of the right type assert themselves. The fact is, Americans are sitting ducks for Third World exploitation of the Western conscience of compassion.

The Logic of Black People Explained

  • Wilhelm 1

I find the self deception, delusion and warped logic of Dan Maris fascinating, like a scientist studying some bacteria through a microscope, I want to know how Maris brain works, here’s the answer.

When it comes to Cultural Marxists it’s not about Blacks or muslims, this is ALL about White liberal guilt, isn’t it ? People like Dan Maris and his ilk support mass immigration out of plain stupidity and vanity.

“ Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the most open-minded of them all ? ”

It’s a beauty contest for bored, do gooding liberals who use immigrants as a mirror to reflect their own inflated egos, a sport where they can nurse their vanity in the mistaken belief that denigrating your own nation, culture and indigenous people is a sign of goodness and lack of prejudice.

Cultural Marxist, One Worlders talk about “ solidarity, ” but in reality it’s all about ME, ME, ME. They don’t show much solidarity with their own children and grandchildren who are going to inherit the multicultural nightmare they leave behind.

It’s all about making them feel good about themselves right now, without regard for future consequences of their actions. So their “ solidarity ” is really an extreme form of egotism and holier-than-thou attitude.

  • Peter From Maidstone

Daniel Maris, if the GDP is virtually nil then any increase will be a high percentage. And how much of the increase is due to Western businesses, and how much ever reaches the people? Many African nations are relatively wealthy while the population lives in utter poverty.

There seems to be little evidence that most of Africa is moving out of a relative stone-age any time soon. I have been to Africa and all the places I stayed could have represented any period over the last 2,000 years save the introduction of TVs.

  • Percy

Agreed, perhaps they should use the proles friend Francis Maude to explain this sort of stuff to us thickies.

  • Alex Sabine

Well said daniel maris. Even so, there is no reason to fetishise the aid budget in pursuit of an arbitrary target*.

For one thing, no departmental budget should be ring-fenced given the parlous state of the public finances.

And for another, we should be more concerned with the effectiveness (or otherwise) of aid/development spending rather than the symbolism of it, with the outcomes rather than the input.

    * The fact that hitting the target is the government’s main concern can be seen by the profile of aid spending over this Parliament. The DfID budget suddenly shoots up from £6.8 billion to £9.1 billion (a 34% cash increase) in 2013, the year in which the commitment to reaching 0.7% of GDP applies.

Why should a British passport holder have to wait in a queue at all?

I ask this as a serious question, would there be anything wrong with just walking straight in while holding up a passport?

How would the authorities view it? Not favourably, I wager. But does that mean it would be wrong?

  • MilkSnatcher

Hallo Wilhelm – the UK is a paradise of cleanliness of course, but little point in having such a clean country if you can’t get into it.

  • Halcyondaze

Why do people stand for this?

We’re shelling out millions in overseas aid, we’re pouring money into the EU, our borders are wide open to any third world immigrant who fancies a slice of taxpayers’ money – and yet we can’t look after our elderly, teach our children, heal our sick, support our soldiers or defend our way of life?

Why would any sane person think that this is an acceptable state for us to be in? How do they think this is going to end??

The Lib/Lab/Con are doing absolutely nothing to address the real issues – from the economy to the EU to immigration to crime. They are making money while committing euthanasia on the country. We must show them that we will not stand for it.

  • daniel maris

    Wilhelm –

Africa is clocking up among the highest GDP growth rates on the planet.

Our European forefathers believed in witches, nailed people to trees, fought fraticidal wars to the death and believed all sorts of nonsense.

There’s no reason to suppose Africa is locked in “the stone age” as you so ignorantly put it.

  • daniel maris

Oh yeah, just who you need to beef up your economic policy: a disgraced ex-Defence Minister with no judgement.

Osborne looked absolutely stressed and out of it when I saw him interviewed on TV a couple of days. I don’t think he’s up to the job.I never did think so,but I more than convinced now.

I don’t know who you would put in his place but there’s got to be someone better than him.

  • Wilhelm 1

What country is that ? Let me guess, Nigeria, Ghana ? famous for their fraud, corruption and scam emails.

  • MilkSnatcher

I have just flwon in form an African country that has just emerged form dictatorship. When I got there last week, their immigration offices processed an entire 747-load in just under 30 minutes. Most needing visas. I arrive back to Heathrow this morning and wait two hours in the EU passport holder queue. Suggest we either (i) learn a lesson from our well-organised friends or (b) divert some aid money back to the Border control function, as otherwise I’ll stay overseas next time.

  • Wilhelm 1

Giving money to Africa doesn’t work. The best predictor of future behaviour is past behaviour and Africa has been in the stone age for 30,000 years and it isn’t going to change.

We think we’re doing good. In actual fact the recipients are not grateful but despise us for being suckers and mugs and squeal for more money.. It’s like giving a bottle of whisky to an alcoholic.

    Talk about ungrateful.

  • Austin Barry

Fox is absolutely right: what is so sacrosanct about overseas aid that it trumps every other budget?

Perhaps eroding overseas aid is, like just about everything else, racist.

  • Tom Coates

The aid budget is, politically, off limits. Sorry but, for now, that’s a fact. But here’s an idea: take a good slug of the money and use it to fund ‘Rhodes’-type scholarships for emerging market students at Russell Group universities. The benefits:
    – scholarships = useful soft power;
    – the money is channelled to the UK, giving a GDP boost;
    – promotes an industry (higher ed) that is a UK global winner.
    Could it work?

  • Andy H

Surely the cost of the Afghan involvement would be best taken from the International Aid budget anyway.

That would leave money in the Defence budget for maintaining the equipment and wages for the military.

  • Vulture

    Right message – wrong messenger.

With a politician’s typical purblind arrogance, the fact that Fox is a completely discredited busted flush seems to have somehow escaped him.

  • Joseph Alan Jones

Defense is the most important roll of a government. Looking weak from overseas is an invitation to attack.
